The University of Nebraska–Lincoln is moving to a more holistic freshman scholarship awarding process where a scholarship committee comprised of senior university administrators will be determining scholarship recipients. They are moving to this process in order to provide more hands-on and personal attention to scholarship applicants.

In determining a student's scholarship, UNL will now look at a student's entire academic profile. An acadeic profile includes, but is not limited to:
ACT/SAT score
Rigor and quality of high school academic courses
Class rank
Cumulative and core grade point average (GPA)
School profile
Chosen program of study

The new process is designed to better assess the academic abilities of each student while not penalizing them for the size of their high school and consider the rigor available at each school.

Although students will be reviewed by a scholarship committee, there are a few items that will remain the same:
Scholarships will continue to be awarded on a rolling basis.
Students that receive a higher ACT/SAT score and submit those scores will be reconsidered for scholarships. The December ACT/SAT scores is the last test score we will consider for scholarship purposes.
To be considered for merit-based scholarships, applicants must be admitted by May 1, 2013.
Students are encouraged to submit a personal statement by January 15, 2013 to be considered for leadership, diversity, global and community service awards.

As always, the best way for students to determine which scholarship they qualify for is to apply. Since scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis, the earlier a student applies, the earlier he or she will receive a scholarship package.
